Introduction to Room Additions

There are many reasons families choose to add additional living space to their home. Many don't want to hassle with moving and forcing the kids to enter a new school system and leave their friends. Others just need a little more room where they can relax, or an extra bedroom for a new addition to the family or visiting friends.

You need to answer a few questions before you decide what type of addition it is you will need. For example if you are looking for some extra living space, you may be able to explore other options like a sunroom or covered patio. That will give you the extra room you are looking for but won't be as costly or take as long to build as a full addition to your home.

You will also need to take into consideration your neighborhood. If you are wanting to add square footage to your home to increase it's value make sure you understand the dynamics of your neighborhood. Having the only six bedroom house in a three bedroom neighborhood will not provide the ROI you may be expecting.

This is just the opposite if your have the only four bedroom home in a five to six bedroom neighborhood. Adding an extra bedroom can really boost your equity, and help you sell the house quicker when the time comes. Talk with your residential general contractor about what your needs are so they can better help you plan an appropriate solution to your situation.
