Lead Carpenter

Our production architecture is based on the lead carpenter system. Simply what this means is your project will be accomplished by mainly one person. Your lead carpenter is a skilled professional generally having at least 10 years of experience in the home construction business. They will plan and orchestrate every task involved in accomplishing your home remodeling. They will hire and manage all needed sub contractors who are required for specialty trades such as plumbing and electrical.

When we first present the lead carpenter system to homeowners some are a little concerned that only one person will be on-site the majority of the time. Let us explain why a one person system is better than and entire crew.

Studies have continually shown that for each person you have on the job you loose a substantial amount of efficiency. 'Helpers' on remodeling projects are usually apprentices, and have only a few years of experience under their belt. They require much guidance and supervision, and therefore slow down construction considerably. What this means is the labor charges increase for us. Which in effect makes them increase for the homeowners.

However the time for the work to be completed does not decrease with less people on the project. Because for each person you take away from the project, the left over workers become more efficient. When an individual works alone he/she is 95% more efficient. On the other hand when teamed with a helper they become only 75% -85% efficient and the helper is 50% less effective. Any additional helpers generally only work at 10% the efficiency rate because they do not have the skill, and or freedom to operate without supervision. The stand alone carpenter who is an expert does not need to ask “Is this ok?” or “Should I be doing it like this?”. A lead carpenter knows what needs to be done, and how to do it right the first time.

In addition to efficient working behavior, having the lead carpenter complete the majority of labor consolidates responsibility. There is no question of why a mistake was made, and who made it. It also allows the carpenter to pay more attention to detail and put more pride in the project knowing that the job 100% reflects upon them.

If extra help is needed it is scheduled for the amount of time and help required. This practice eliminates workers waiting around to be told what to do. This combination of increasing worker efficiency and eliminating idle time allows better control over the project and better customer satisfaction.
